Tetrapeptide-1

Tetrapeptide-1 is a peptide that supports a visibly firmer, more defined eye contour. It works by increasing expression of MBNL1 (Muscleblind-like protein 1), a protein that governs the transition of dermal skin cells (fibroblasts) into myofibroblasts — a stronger, contraction-capable form of cell that physically reorganises and tightens the collagen

network within the skin’s supportive extracellular matrix (ECM).

In vitro, this translates into measurable contraction of the dermal collagen matrix and a marked rise in EDA-fibronectin, a matrix protein associated with cell adhesion and myofibroblast activity. Both are consistent with a genuine tightening effect at the cellular level.

Tetrapeptide-1 has also been studied for its effect on mitochondrial function — the energy-producing process within virtually all cells. As mitochondrial output declines with age, muscle cells become less able to generate the energy needed to maintain healthy muscle tone, a factor that contributes to sagging in areas with fine, mobile musculature.
